Dennis D. Berkey, president and CEO of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, has been invited to join the Competitiveness Council, a national group that seeks to boost the United States economy through manufacturing initiatives.
The council is a nonprofit, nonpartisan group made up of business, university and labor leaders.
The council makes policy recommendations aimed at creating jobs and boosting national security.
Berkey, who has been WPI’s president since 2004, will attend the Competitiveness Council’s national summit in December.
Berkey also serves on Gov. Deval Patrick’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Advisory Council, which seeks to boost student preparation for employment in those fields.
