Worcester Polytechnic Institute has received a $150,000 pledge from a Farmington, Conn.-based fire safety company for the school’s new Fire Protection Engineering Department, which will be housed in the newest Gateway Park building.
UTC Fire & Security, which is a division of United Technologies Corp., will give the donation over a five-year period.
WPI’s Fire Protection Engineering Department has already graduated more than 350 master’s and doctoral students. UTC is the second-largest employer of WPI graduates.
The fire protection department will be in the newest Gateway Park building, the school’s multi-building development project. Construction on the new building is expected to begin in April and be complete by the end of 2012.
