Worcester Polytechnic Institute employees have mobilized to help provide medical providers with emergency supplies amid the COVID-19 crisis, the school announced in a press release this week.

Since Friday, WPI's community has collected more than 36,000 Nitrile gloves, 810 surgical masks and 136 safety glasses, among other materials. Collected supplies were sent to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency for distribution, according to a press release.

WPI is also utilizing its 3D printing capabilities, aiming to print items most needed by engineers and clinicians. Currently, school coordinators are determining which medical supplies are best suited for 3D-printing.

Other initiatives include developing a face mask stitching group and mobilizing alumni to solicit additional manpower, according to the press release.
