Worcester Polytechnic Institute will donate $50,000 next week toward renovations to Institute Park.
The donation represents WPI's continued investment in the park, which is located off of Salisbury Street.
WPI helped the city of Worcester pay for a master plan for the park in 2007 and two years later signed a payment-in-lieu-of-taxes (PILOT) agreement with the city that is providing financial support for the park as well as the Worcester Public Library. WPI donated a check for $50,000 at that time to the Friends of Institute Park.
The park's new features include a band shell for concerts, upgraded electrical power and a new entrance plaza. This year, plans for the park include refurbished bathrooms, the construction of a new gazebo near the tennis courts, more walking paths and full restoration of Salisbury Pond.
A formal check presentation will take place June 27.
