CellThera, a biotechnology company founded by Worcester Polytechnic Institute biology professor Tanja Dominko, has been awarded a $570,000 U.S. Defense Department of Defense contract to develop tissue regeneration technology.
Under the contract, CellThera, which is part of WPI’s Bioengineering Institute at Gateway Park in Worcester, will continue its efforts aimed at restoring tissues damaged or lost due to traumatic injury. The DOD’s Advanced Research Projects Agency awarded the contract.
The contract includes an option to extend for an additional year and CellThera will subcontract to WPI for certain elements of the research.
The tissue regeneration research is in its second phase, which will try to reprogram and engineer cells to replace damaged skeletal muscle and restore it to normal function.
