After more than a year of exploring a possible collaboration, Wormtown Brewery and Wachusett Brewing Co. are co-releasing a beer for a worthy cause.
The Worcester and Westminster breweries are releasing Belgian wit beer this month called Worcester’s Bravest to benefit the Ava Roy Fund, which was established after the death of Worcester firefighter Christopher Roy, who died while fighting a house fire on Lowell Street last month.
All of the proceeds from sales of the beer will be donated to the fund for Roy’s 9-year-old daughter, Ava.
In a statement, Wachusett Brewing Co. President Christian McMahan said the two breweries have been speaking for over a year about possible projects on which to collaborate.
The collaboration took less than a month to come to fruition.
“We are both honored to be a part of something that has such a profound impact on our community,” McMahan said.
The beer is described as a light-bodied, unfiltered wheat beer with sweet, zesty citrus notes with some pepper spice and herbal hops.
The beer will be released on draft this month in both breweries tap rooms. A limited amount of cans will be available for sale.
According to WBJ research, both companies were two of the top three most productive breweries in Central Massachusetts in 2017, with Wachusett ranking no. 1 with 70,000 barrels brewed and Wormtown third with 24,000 barrels.
