World Energy Solutions of Worcester said it helped the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), which manages government assets, procure energy for 119 federal accounts throughout New England, totaling more than 920 million kilowatts hours of electricity.
The energy management services firm said 69 million of those kilowatt hours come from renewable sources. Through the latest procurement, GSA quadrupled the load it last auctioned through World Energy’s competitive online auctions in 2011, and included procurement of electricity for federal accounts in Massachusetts for the first time.
The procurement also covers accounts in Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.
According to World Energy, the procurements are covered by seven 36-month contracts that employ block and fixed pricing that will help the government save more than $5.5 million annually. Other agencies that participated in the procurement included the American Red Cross, Hanscom Air Force Base, and the federal Veterans Administration, Bureau of Prisons and Department of State.
