Littleton-based Workers Credit Union has named Jay Champion as its next CEO and president.
Champion has been the interim CEO and president since the July retirement of Doug Petersen, who had been with WCU for 27 years. Before joining WCU, Champion had been the president and CEO of Westerra Credit Union in Denver, Colorado, according to a press release issued by the credit union on Friday.
“Jay is a seasoned financial leader and has the skills needed to maintain our team’s delivery of top-notch member service,” Nilesh Gunda, board chair of Workers Credit Union, said in the press release. “In less than a year, Jay has made a positive impact on Workers Credit Union and our mission to empower our members to achieve financial wellness. We’re confident in Jay’s ability to continue advancing our goals while being an innovative leader to help the credit union continue to thrive.”
In addition to his role at Westerra Credit Union, Champion spent time in leadership positions at Elevations Credit Union in Boulder, Colorado. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University - Commerce, with an MBA in finance and management, and East Texas State University, with a bachelor’s degree in economics.
“Our team is passionate about being the community economic engine that people and businesses in our markets can count on,” Champion said in the press release. “I am honored to lead our team in our mission to continue improving the daily lives of our members.”
Workers Credit Union has $2.6 billion in assets, making it the second largest credit union in Central Massachusetts, ranking behind Marlborough-based Digital Federal Credit Union, according to data provided by the WBJ Research Department. WCU has 123,615 members and 320 full-time employees.
