Workers’ comp premiums could rise by 6.4 percent

Rising health insurance costs are not the only cost of doing business on employer radar screens. The Workers’ Compensation Rating and Inspection Bureau on Dec. 23 notified Insurance Commissioner Daniel Judson of its request for an average 6.4 percent increase in workers’ compensation premiums, effective July 1, 2016.

The bureau filed its request on behalf of 300 member carriers. According to an aide, the Division of Insurance will likely hold a hearing in late January to launch the workers’ compensation rate case.
