Work begins at site of $21M Worcester hotel

Demolition has begun at the location of a 120-room long term stay hotel in Washington Square.
Demolition has begun at the site of the approximately 120-room extended stay hotel being constructed by First Bristol Corporation in Washington Square.
The Homeward Suites Hotel by Hilton will be located on the rotary near historic Union Station and an entrance to Route 290. Demolition of two parcels that housed the former locations of KJ Barron’s, Gabriel Racing and the Gun Parlor commenced this week and will continue for another week to 10 days, according to company representatives. Weather permitting, construction on the foundation of the building could begin as early as March 1.
“We are confident that an All Suites Extended Stay Hilton Product will generate demand in the city for business travelers, tourists, and parents visiting their college students. We believe we can contribute to Worcester’s success story by helping to meet this demand,” Jim Karam, president and CEO of First Bristol Corp., said in a statement.
The completed hotel will stretch up six stories and contain approximately 120 long-term stay rooms. Parking will consist of 115 spaces. The hotel is expected to employ 35 full and part-time workers and will generate more than $350,000 in property taxes and local hotel tax revenues, according to company representatives.
The project is being financed by East Boston Savings Bank.
