Primetals Technologies, which has offices in Worcester and is building a research and office center in Sutton, signed a contract with HBIS Shijiazhuang Iron & Steel Co. for a new steel rod mill in China, the company announced in a press release.
The new mill is part of HBIS moves out of Shijiazhuang city to a new location, as a result of environmental protection rules, and will feature high-capacity technology for thermo-mechanical rolling of larger diameter products.
Financial terms were not disclosed. Primetals is based in London and has locations throughout the world. The new mill for HBIS will be produced in Worcester.
The plant is expected to have an annual capacity of 400,000 tons and is designed for output speeds of 115 meters per second, according to a press release.
HBIS Shijiazhuang Iron & Steel Co. also purchased a bar mill from Primetals Technologies already in operation and is not part of the plant relocation.
