The company refurbishing the Hadley-Burwick building on Main Street in Worcester says it'll be ready for a grand opening June 18.
The Dedham-based Economic Development Finance Corp. bought the building in 2005 and began the renovation project last May. The five-story building has been converted into 44 apartments and 5,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space.
EDFC said it has "tentatively scheduled" a grand opening ceremony for 3 p.m. June 18. The building, which is on the corner of Main and Madison Streets, was opened to tenants last weekend, and 12 of the new units have been pre-leased.
EDFC specializes in developing workforce housing for tenants making between 80 percent and 140 percent of the state's median income.
The general contractor on the job was Lee Kennedy Co. of Quincy. The apartment building was designed by Fine Associations Architecture of Boston.
Before being abandoned by the David Burwick Furniture Co. in the early 1990s, the building was home to the Hadley Furniture Co. from its construction in 1923 until 1964, when Burwick bought the building and furniture business from Hadley.
