Worcester's Flying Dreams Brewing opening second location in Marlborough

Worcester’s Flying Dreams Brewing Co. will open a second location into a space in Marlborough where a fledgling brewery failed to open the doors.

The brewery will take the place of Walden Woods Brewing, which in June nixed its plans to open in a 277 Main St. space.

Meredith Harris, executive director of the Marlborough Economic Development Corp., told WBJ at least 10other microbreweries were asking about that space.

On Monday, Harris said Flying Dreams emerged as the frontrunner for the space almost immediately, but a lease was only signed recently.

The space is nearly turnkey ready, Harris said. Only aesthetic changes are planned to align with Flying Dreams’ branding.

The Worcester space at 455 Park Ave. serves primarily as a manufacturing and brewing space, but offers samples, bottle sales and growler fills at its small tasting room.

The Marlborough space will be more consumer facing and function as the brewery’s taproom and an experimental small-batch operation, Harris said.

Flying Dreams Brewing Co. could not be immediately reached for comment.

Walden Woods Brewing was initially expected to open in late 2017, but the brewery delayed that opening until June 8 when it announced the brewery would not come to fruition.

On June 8, Walden Woods Brewing cited circumstances beyond the company’s control for it's inability to open.

“It is with unspeakable sadness that we have to announce Walden Woods Brewing will not open for business,” the brewery posted to Facebook. “We would like the entire community to know how hard we fought to save our vision -- this little brewery -- but in the end, the battle was lost.”
