Worcester’s Allegro MicroSystems Inc. announced that it has entered into a strategic agreement with United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) of Taiwan.
Allegro makes high-performance semiconductors. UMC will manufacture Allegro’s fourth generation 0.3um BCD product line later this year. This wafer process will support Allegro’s commercial power customers.
“The agreement between Allegro and UMC is a significant corporate initiative and one that has a direct impact on the strategic growth of our company. Allegro, as well as our customer base, will realize many benefits as a result of this alignment,” said Ravi Vig, vice president of business development at Allegro.
Allegro said it has begun production of the product’s pilot and expects full production with UMC to begin within months.
