Worcester Youths To Receive Clean Energy Jobs Training

The Worcester Youth Center is one of six Bay State agencies to win grants for clean energy job training initiatives, the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) announced.

The Chandler Street nonprofit, which offers educational and social opportunities for people ages 14 to 24, received $112,000 for its program, called STEMming the Opportunity Gap (SOG), a three-phase partnership between the Youth Center, Quinsigamond Community College, and the Central Mass Workforce Investment Board. It will introduce low-income youths who aren't working or attending school to clean energy concepts, setting them on a path toward higher education in the field, MassCEC said.

Grants were also awarded to nonprofits that serve low-income youths in Boston, Cape Cod, and throughout Western Massachusetts.
