Worcester vegan restaurant makes PETA list

PETA has included Worcester’s Belmont Vegetarian on a list of 16 vegan soul food restaurants “that will blow your mind.”

The list compiled by the organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals listed the Worcester staple 13th amid restaurants from around the nation. The restaurant located at 157 Belmont St. takes a twist on Jamaican and American inspired dishes.
“Thanks to Belmont Vegetarian Restaurant, diners can enjoy all the lip-smacking flavor of classic soul food — minus the cruelty and cholesterol,” PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Remain said in a statement.

The list is part of the organization’s agenda to not only move people away from a diet that includes animals but to highlight reported health benefits of a vegan diet.
