Worcester unemployment falls to 3.1%

Unemployment in the Worcester metro area fell to 3.1 percent in October while Framingham came in at a scant 2.3 percent, the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development reported Tuesday.

The Worcester numbers mark a decline from 3.7 percent in September and 4.8 percent in October 2015. The Framingham metropolitan division declined to 2.3 percent from 2.7 percent in September and 3.6 percent in October 2015.

While impressive, the Worcester October number still comes in above the statewide figure of 2.7 percent, down from 3.3 percent the previous month and 4.5 percent in the previous year.

These low unemployment numbers can, actually, represent an issue for employers who are reporting issues with finding qualified applicants.
