Worcester traffic overhaul to receive $3M

SAM BONACCI Jay Ash, state secretary of Housing and Economic Development, announced $3 million in funding for Worcester at a press conference Monday.

The city of Worcester received a $3 million MassWorks infrastructure grant award that will help the flow of traffic from Route 146 into downtown.

The announcement was made Monday by Jay Ash, state secretary of Housing and Economic Development. Ash was in the city for the announcement of a $36 million renovation of 100 and 120 Front St.

A portion of the grant, $1 million, will go toward the Front Street downtown renovation, while the remaining $2 million will be put towards the reconstruction of Quinsigamond Avenue leading from the Route 146 interchange to downtown Worcester.

“We are going to be able to create a great corridor from the 146 connector right into our downtown,” City Manager Edward Augustus said.
