Worcester is slated to receive over $4.1 million in additional community development block grants to assist with coronavirus relief efforts, U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern's office announced in a Thursday press release.
CDBG grants are used for a wide variety of local projects, including economic development projects. The additional funding stems from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, which allocated an additional $5 billion to the CDBG program, according to McGovern's office.
"I’m glad that we moved quickly to get this money allocated and distributed, but there is much more work do be done," McGovern said in a press release. "Workers are hurting. Small businesses are shuttering."
Other area towns will also receive funding from the allocation, including $319,206 for Framingham, $272,508 for Leominster and $586,047 for Fitchburg.
