Worcester temp agency charged with $110K workers comp fraud

A Worcester man and owner of a temp agency has been indicted by a Worcester County grand jury for fraud and evading more than $110,000 in workers compensation payments.

According to Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey’s office, Sovan Kien, 56, allegedly underreported People’s Term Service’s employee count and the amount it paid those employees in response to adults conducted by the firm’s worker’s compensation insurance provider.

As a result, Kien and the agency evaded about $111,856 in insurance premiums, Healey alleges.

Kien faces 12 charges, including workers’ compensation fraud, larceny and larceny over $1,200. He will be arraigned on Oct. 22.

According to state business records, the company was voluntarily dissolved last month.
