WICN Public Radio of Worcester has activated a new radio tower in Paxton that will extend the station's reach by as much as 40 percent.
The music station has moved to the new Paxton tower from a tower on Stiles Hill in Boylston. The new tower is the region's highest and is on Asnebumskit Hill, according to the station. On the new tower, the station will be able to reach parts of Boston, the Pioneer Valley, Northern Rhode Island, Connecticut and parts of Southern New Hampshire.
The Federal Communications Commission granted WICN a construction permit to improve its signal more than two years ago.
Funding for the new tower was provided by the George F. and Sybil H. Fuller Foundation, the Stoddard Charitable Trust, the Greater Worcester Community Foundation and WICN members.
