Worcester State University is set to unveil a renovated 422-bed, energy-efficient residence hall constructed by Milford's Consigli Construction Co. Inc.
For the last 18 months Consigli workers have been constructing a four-story, 41,000-sqaure-foot addition to the existing 58,000-square-foot Dowden Residence Hall. The remodeled building features a four-story glass entrance and energy-efficient amenities including a combined natural gas heat and power system, new windows, lights and plumbing.
It is expected to become a LEED-certified building, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, by the U.S. Green Buildings Council at the gold level, the second-highest ranking given out by the organization.
An official ceremony opening the building will take place Tuesday morning at the school. Cambridge-based architects Prellwitz Chilinski Associates Inc., designed the building and the Massachusetts State College Building Authority paid $19.1 million for the project.
