Worcester State, Polar hacked by pro-Nazi messages

Edd Cote/File Students at Worcester State University celebrate the new Wellness Center last year. The university was among those whose Twitter accounts were hacked Wednesday.

Worcester State University and Polar Beverages were among Twitter users whose accounts were hacked and filled with pro-Nazi messages.

Hundreds of Twitter accounts were hacked, with postings that showed the Turkish flag, a swastika and pro-Nazi and Turkish messages. Forbes, BBC North America and signer Justin Bieber were among those hacked.

Worcester State posted a message Wednesday alerting the community to the hack and saying the messages showed up early in the day and appeared to be automatically removed by Twitter.

"Worcester State has no tolerance for hate speech, and we are appalled at having been used in this manner," the school said in a statement.

The university said it knew of no other time its account was hacked, and it is considering additional security measures.

Polar Beverages did not return a message seeking comment.
