Alexander MacDougall, most recently a staff writer at the Innovation Leader in Boston, has joined WBJ's newsroom to cover the health care and diversity & inclusion beats.
MacDougall, who obtained his bachelor's degree from Worcester State University and master's degree from Boston University, previously wrote as a freelancer for Worcester Magazine and as a staff reporter for the Bangor Daily News and its sister publication Houlton Pioneer Times in Maine.
"In less than a week, Alex has already proven himself a valuable addition to the WBJ Editorial staff," WBJ Editor Brad Kane said. "He has an enhanced skillset with data and visualizations, and he will greatly help WBJ's audience further understand the Central Massachusetts market."
MacDougall, a resident of Mendon, started with WBJ on Wednesday and already produced stories on Reliant Medical Group's suspension of adult patient intake and the opening of The Mercantile restaurant.
"I'm looking forward to covering the economy of Central Massachusetts and the people who help drive it," MacDougall said. "I hope to be able to showcase to readers the many interesting developments occurring in this part of the state while continuing to hold a critical eye to what happens behind the scenes of this new economic growth."
During his time at Worcester State, MacDougall was a founding contributor to the New Worcester Spy student news site, and while at Boston University, he served as news editor and sports editor for the Boston University News Service.
His responsibilities at WBJ will include sending out the weekly Health enewsletter. His coverage of the healthcare beat includes the cannabis industry, and he will cover diversity & inclusion issues throughout the Central Massachusetts business community as well.
