The employees of the Starbucks at 11 East Central St. in Worcester have voted unanimously to unionize, according to a letter Friday from the workers posted to the Twitter account of Boston Starbucks Workers United.
The move to unionize was approved 14-0 according to a separate tweet by that same Twitter account. Other Massachusetts locations that approved on Friday efforts to form unions are in Brookline, Westford, and Boston. This brings the total of unionized Starbucks locations in Massachusetts to 10.
“This is a win not solely for us. It is a shared victory for fellow partners across the country currently in their unionization process,” the Worcester Starbucks workers wrote in a letter signed by The Partners at 11 East Central Street in Worcester, MA.
The East Central St. location filed its intent to unionize with the National Labor Relations Board on March 26. The unionization push was supported by Workers United Upstate, which is an affiliate of the Service Employees International Union.
The store joins a nationwide push to unionize Starbucks stores. As of Friday, 115 Starbucks stores in 26 states have won union elections, and 282 stores in 38 states have filed to unionize, according to More Perfect Union, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization.
