Two area agencies have been awarded a combined $150,000 in financing to create 27 new, affordable sober housing units in Worcester, according to the Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency (MassHousing).
Spectrum Health Systems Inc. will received $75,000 to create 12 new housing units for men and women recovering from addiction, at 27 West St. in Worcester.
South Middlesex Non-Profit Housing Corp. also received $75,000, which will pay for the creation of 15 units on Queen Street for men and women.
The grants are available through Community Recovery Innovations Inc. (CCRI), a non-profit subsidiary corporation of MassHousing, according to MassHousing.
"There is a great need for affordable sober housing throughout the commonwealth, and these two CCRI grants will help men and women in Worcester who are overcoming addiction and working to reclaim their lives as productive members of society,'' said MassHousing Executive Director Thomas R. Gleason.
