Worcester slapped with $125K fine

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency fined the City of Worcester $125,000 for violations of the federal Clean Water Act resulting from sewage overflows from the City’s sanitary sewer collection system. According to the EPA, the City’s sanitary sewage system has overflowed at least 70 times in the last five years.

The EPA ordered the City to investigate ways to avoid the problem in the future, including preventative maintenance programs and taking measures to eliminate overflows during wet weather on Chandler and Mann Streets.
