The Worcester Sharks hockey team has announced two position changes within its leadership, including the appointment of a new general manager.
Joe Will, who has been with the Sharks organization since its inception in 1990, has taken on the role of general manager and will continue to be assistant manager of the San Jose Sharks, the National Hockey League team the Worcester team is affiliated with.
Will reports to San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson.
Wayne Thomas, the outgoing general manager, will remain with the organization, continuing his roles as vice president and assistant general manager in San Jose.
The Sharks also announced that Jon Gustafson has been promoted to vice president of the American Hockey League team and will be responsible for business operations of the Worcester Sharks. He'll oversee the organization from San Jose, with monthly visits to Worcester, a Sharks spokesman said. Gustafson will also continue to serve as general manager of Sharks Ice centers, a group of ice rinks in the San Francisco Bay Area operated by Sharks Sports & Entertainment.
He will oversee all aspects of Worcester's business operations and report to Jim Goddard, SSE's executive vice president of business and building operations.
On June 28, the Sharks announced that long-time President Michael Mudd was leaving the organization after 11 years.
Earlier this year, the Sharks announced a deal that would keep the team playing at the DCU Center through 2016. The team has played in Worcester since 2006.
