The City of Worcester is accepting qualifications from artists interested in designing a sculpture inspired by city resident and abolitionist Abby Kelley Foster, to be placed on the corner of Main and Walnut Street, the city announced on Thursday.

The project is part of an ongoing effort by the city’s Cultural Development Office, Department of Public Works & Parks, the Worcester Cultural Coalition and Urban Culture Institute to incorporate the arts and Worcester’s cultural heritage into public spaces around the city, according to a press release.

After qualifications are discussed at a public meeting on Oct. 19, the deadline for proposals will extend until Oct. 30. The completed project will be due in April.

Suggested themes for the sculpture, which will be placed at the site of the first National Women’s Rights Convention in 1850, include not only Foster herself, but also the Women’s Rights Movement and the Revolution.
