Worcester scrap yard sold to energy savings company

An industrial building and former scrapyard is due for a major renovation and improvement after a Lamartine Street property in Worcester has been sold to an energy savings solutions company for $750,000.

According to records on file with the Worcester County Registry of Deeds, the 19,900-square-foot warehouse building at 100-104 Lamartine St. was sold through U.S. bankruptcy court to Accelerated Energy, a subsidiary of Energy Monster. 

The company, already based in Worcester on Blackstone River Road, has major upgrades planned for the property, said Will Kelleher of real estate firm Kelleher & Sadowsky, which brokered the sale. 

“It will look a lot better than it did as a scrap yard,” he said.

Courtney Hider, a sales manager for the company, said the move allows the company to have its own building. Currently, it shares a building with Commonwealth Electrical Technologies. 

About 50 jobs will be relocating to the space, Hider said.

Goldstein Scrap Metal operated a scrap metal business at the location since at least 2006, when Goldstein Properties LLC purchased the building for $1 million.
