Worcester Relay For Life 14th Biggest In New England

The Worcester Relay For Life, benefiting the American Cancer Society, is the 14th biggest event of its kind in New England, according to the ACS.

Last year, more than 970 people took part in the walk, raising $223,600 to support research, advocacy and service.

Programs supported by the fund raiser include Hope Lodge in Worcester, a free, temporary housing facility for cancer patients undergoing treatments; Look Good Feel Better, a service helping women with cancer learn to restore their appearance during treatments; Road to Recovery, which provides patients with transportation to and from their appointments and Reach to Recovery, which matches breast cancer patients with survivors who can help answer their questions.

The Relay For Life is an all-night event where volunteers walk on a track, keeping a continuous presence throughout the night. The 2009 event will take place on June 19.
