According to the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in June was 4.9 percent, down from 5.1 percent in May.
According to the department, the Worcester area, along with the New Bedford and Brockton areas posted higher year-to-date job gains than the rest of the state.
The Boston-Cambridge-Quincy area recorded the largest over the month job gain, up by 17,000 or 0.7 percent. The Barnstable and Pittsfield areas also recorded strong seasonal job gains. In July, only the Lowell-Billerica-Chelmsford and New Bedford areas posted seasonal declines, which were related to summer reductions in education.
