Worcester ranked America's 2nd friendliest small biz city

In a survey of small businesses in 80 U.S. cities, Worcester is ranked as the second most small-business-friendly city in America, trailing only Boise, Idaho.
The survey, conducted by online service company Thumbtack, found Worcester scored 15 percent better than last year with an A+ as the second best city in which to do business.
The company surveyed more than 13,000 small business owners in 50 states and 80 cities to evaluate the ease of doing business in local governments.
"The small business owners we heard from in Worcester were 9 percent more positive about their city’s support for small businesses than the national average, leading to their A+ grade overall," said Thumbtack Economist Lucas Puente. "And compared to nearby cities, such as Boston (B) and Lawrence (A), Worcester did generally better."
The city scored an A- on ease of starting a business, A- on health and safety, and A- on employment, hiring and labor and good marks in other categories, leading to an overall friendliness grade of A+.
Only Boise, Idaho was ranked better than Worcester.
As a state Massachusetts scored an A-, making it the 18th friendliest state to small businesses. Nearby states New York (D+) and Rhode Island (D+) were ranked near the bottom.
