The Worcester Railers ECHL hockey team plans to return to the ice this fall, after sitting out last season due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to a Friday announcement.
Opening Night at the DCU Center is set for Oct. 23, during which the team will play against the Maine Mariners.
"Visitors and residents of Central Mass are ready for the return of hockey," said Railers president Stephanie Ramey, in a statement. "We are looking ahead and are excited to come together as a community to celebrate the Railers."
The rest of the 2021-22 season schedule will be announced at a later date, according to the Railers.
The Railers announcement comes just weeks before the planned Polar Park Opening Day scheduled for May 11 at Polar Park.
