Worcester radio host and program director laid off

The iHeartMedia personnel cuts happening nationwide has taken its toll in Worcester.

Tony Bristol, News-Talk WTAG program director, and WSRS morning co-host Greg Bedard have been laid-off, according to RadioInsight.com, an online news website covering the communications industry.

Bristol, Bedard and Sean Davey, the station’s general manager, could not be reached for comment.

News Radio WTAG 580/94.9 calls itself Worcester's source for news, traffic, and weather.

The cuts also hit WBZ radio in Medford.

Reporter Deb Lawler, who has been with the station for more than 30 years, overnight talk show host Bradley Jay, sports anchor Tom Cuddy, and political commentator Jon Keller were also let go, the report said.

Earlier this week, iHeartMedia, the San Antonio-based communications provider, announced wide-ranging corporate restructuring, and then the layoffs began. In a statement, the company said the new structure will enable them to maximize the performance of each of its markets, and the company overall.

“Our people are our company’s most important asset,” iHeartMedia said. “There will be some employee dislocation — some by geography and some by function — which is the unfortunate price we pay to modernize the company.”

Back to Sirius. Greg and Suzanne were the reason that I listened to 96.1.

I join the many disappointed daily listeners of 96.1 in learning of the lay off of the calm, intelligent, funny, warm Greg Bedard. Greg and Suzanne are exceptional together. They have such a respectful and interesting relationship and have been an important start to my weekdays for years. I find Chris loud, abrasive, anxious and not at all generous as a co-host. I turned WSRS off this morning. Good bye and thank you, Suzanne. Good luck.
