Worcester’s first medical marijuana dispensary could be the city’s first to open for recreational sales, as the Colorado company Good Chemistry is up for a final license from the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission on Thursday.
The Harrison Street store along with the company’s Bellingham production facility are up for retail, cultivation and product manufacturing final licenses.
Good Chemistry, which opened for medical sales in August, won provisional licenses from the CCC in November. It is the only Worcester dispensary with a provisional license.
If the store is awarded a retail license, it could still take up to several weeks for the location to open for recreational sales. In November, Good Chemistry said it was anticipating being open for recreational sales in March.
The store is one of 13 retail cannabis stores the city has selected to go through the state and local process of signing a host community agreement, winning city board approvals and finally getting the go-ahead from cannabis regulators.
City officials have said it will permit up to 15 cannabis retailers to open.
