As part of its plan to bring the post office into the future, the United States Postal Service has selected the Worcester post office as one of several across the country to pilot its new USPS Connect Local program, which will include same-day delivery for businesses within Worcester.
The new service is meant for local businesses to be able to meet consumer demand for faster delivery service. The pilot program is to be unveiled in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. May 23 at the Worcester Main Post Office.
“USPS Connect provides customers and businesses of all sizes with an affordable way to meet the current demand for faster delivery,” said Worcester Postmaster Dan O’Neill, in a press release.
The pilot is only affecting mail delivered within the city of Worcester.
The USPS Connect program is just one part of the USPS’ Delivering for America 10-year plan to modernize and achieve financial stability for the postal service. It seeks to achieve a positive net income for the postal service within the next three years and reduce current losses incurred through the service. The Connect Local program being piloted in Worcester plans to offer same-day delivery, Sunday delivery, and pickup options.
