Worcester nonprofit shares in $14M state grant for homeless housing

The Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development announced on March 31 it awarded $13.7 million to support seven housing projects, including to the South Middlesex Opportunity Council to build 18 apartments in Worcester to serve as homeless housing.  

The three-story building at 30 Winfield St. will include 18 studio apartments for people with severe housing issues. An office for case management and community will be included in this location. 

In support of 30 Winfield Street, DHCD will give subsidies in addition to 10 state housing vouchers. The City of Worcester is providing $100,000 in local funds for project-based subsidies. 

Projects in four other Massachusetts cities joined SMOC in splitting the $13.7 million for homeless housing: Boston, Quincy, Amherst, and Salem.
