Lutheran Social Services of Worcester said it will change its name to help expand its reach and shift its direction without changing its core values.
The organization’s new name will be Ascentria Care Alliance. The change will take effect Sept. 1 although the organization said changes on its website and marketing materials will take place over the summer.
“Our new name will help us open the door to new partnerships with foundations, corporate sponsors and donors,” President and CEO Angela Bovill said in a statement. “However, we will continue to honor our Lutheran heritage by putting our faith in action to help people of all backgrounds and beliefs achieve their full potential."
With a 142-year history and 1,400 employees, the Worcester-based social services organization serves more than 20,000 people in 60 locations throughout New England, it said, assisting groups ranging from children to refugees to older adults.
“We not only have a new name, but a new strategic direction," added Bovill. "We are moving from a programmatic agency to a client-centered model of care. Our goal is to meet the needs of those we serve in a more holistic way, moving them forward in all aspects of their lives.
Bovill said part of the organization’s new direction includes partnering with local for-profits to provide volunteer opportunities, expanding language and transportation services into new markets and grow its microenterprise program, which helps new Americans with microloans and business advice.
