The City of Worcester has named Stephanie Williams as its new chief diversity officer, the city announced on Tuesday.
Williams most recently served as assistant director of the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance. Before that, she spent nine years working at Anna Maria College in Paxton, where she served for seven years as the director of multicultural affairs, according to the city.
The city plans for Williams to assume her role on Nov. 30.
A Worcester resident and certified life coach, Williams earned her associate’s degree in psychology from Becker College in Worcester and both her master’s and bachelor’s in business administration at Anna Maria.
“I look forward to working for the city I love, taking us where we have the potential to go by removing any barriers and impediments, and continuing to build a workforce that reflects the community,” Williams said in a statement.
In her new role, Williams will lead the city manager’s diversity agenda and will be tasked with analyzing and improving the city’s procurement strategies to support and increase opportunities for minority- and women-owned businesses to collaborate and work with the city, according to the announcement.
