Worcester metro gas prices up another five cents

The average price of a gallon of gas in Greater Worcester rose five cents per gallon this week after a seven cent increase the previous week.

The average price of gas rose to $3.38 in the Worcester Metro area, up from $3.23 one month ago.

The price is still below the national average of $3.67 and slightly lower than the state average at $3.40.

“When the cost of crude oil crosses the $80 a barrel mark, that puts a lot of upward pressure on what we pay at the pump,”  AAA Northeast Vice President of Public and Government Affairs Mary Maguire said in a Monday press release, “and as long as oil costs remain at the current level, drivers will likely see incremental price increases for now.”

Of Massachusetts counties, Hampden County has the lowest average price at $3.30 and Suffolk County the highest at $3.55.
