Worcester Lab Unveils New Genetic Tests
Athena Diagnostics, a branch of Quest Diagnostics with a clinical laboratory in Worcester, has announced the availability of new genetic tests that help in the detection of several rare neurological disorders.
The tests were developed and validated at the Worcester lab, Athena said, and they will be unveiled at this week's annual meeting of the American Academy of Neurology in San Diego. The lab will also offer the new tests.
The disorders the tests cover include hereditary neuropathy, neuromuscular disease, epilepsy and certain movement disorders, Athena said. They streamline the diagnostic process by using gene sequencing and bioinformatics to evaluate many clinically-relevant genes with a single blood draw, according to New Jersey-based Athena.
