Insurance company Unum, with a significant presence in downtown Worcester, was recognized as being one of the 50 most community-minded U.S. corporations by national volunteer service organization Points of Light, which was founded by former President George Bush.
The Civic 50 is an annual ranking providing a national standard for corporate citizenship and showcases how companies can use their time, skills and resources to impact their communities.
Unum’s Worcester employees gave almost $800K to Central Massachusetts nonprofits in 2018 and volunteered 2,900 hours.
“Unum has a long history of making a difference in people's lives, from our customers to our employees -- and, just as importantly, to the communities where we live, work and play,” said Cary Olson Cartwright, assistant vice president of corporate social responsibility for Unum. “It’s an honor to receive this award by the Civic 50, and we thank them for recognizing our commitment to the communities we serve and support.”
Throughout all its locations, Unum employees invested more than $13.2M to charitable causes and logged more than 67,000 volunteer hours.
