The Hotel Worcester on Summer Street, which had been a Hampton Inn until last year, will be rebranded as a Holiday Inn Express. The property owners are investing in $1 million in upgrades to the site, according to the company that owns the Holiday Inn Express brand.

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) of Atlanta said the 96-room hotel will bear the Holiday Inn Express banner later this year after renovations begin next month. IHG, which also owns the Crowne Plaza brand, is returning to the downtown Worcester market three years after the closing of the Crowne Plaza hotel in Lincoln Square. The site has since been taken over by MCPHS University.

"Our location was optimal, and it seemed like a mutual fit for IHG, the city and our investors," Jonathan Buck, the hotel's general manager, said in an email.

The hotel is owned by Worcester Hospitality Group and managed by Global Vision Hotels of Needham. It will feature a contemporary image with emphasis on arrival and welcome services; guestroom and guest bath comfort; and a redesigned logo and signage. It will also offer amenities such as 24-hour fitness center, complimentary breakfast and weekly lobby events.

"The ownership group has invested more than $1 million to be able to convert this key property," said Gautam Sharma, president of Global Vision Hotels. "The Holiday Inn Express brand is modern and fresh, and we are proud to start serving the Worcester community.”
