The former Hampton Inn in Worcester has been formally rechristened as a Holiday Inn Express, the hotel’s general manager announced.
The name change follows a $1.3 million renovation to the 96-room hotel on Summer Street, while it operated under the independent Hotel Worcester banner. The 51,000-square-foot property ceased being a Hampton Inn in 2012.
“Holiday Inn Express is modern, fresh, clean and uncomplicated and a perfect fit for downtown Worcester,” said Jonathan Buck, the hotel’s general manager.
The hotel will feature a contemporary image with emphasis on arrival and welcome services, guestroom and guest bath comfort, and a redesigned logo and signage, according to InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) of Atlanta, which owns the Holiday Inn Express brand. The site will also offer amenities such as complimentary Wi-Fi and breakfast, a fitness center and a business center with computers and printing.
IHG had been out of downtown Worcester since the 2010 closing of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Lincoln Square. The site has since been taken over by MCPHS University.
