The sales of single family homes shot up by the greatest amount in the last four years for the month of April, according to the Tuesday report from The Warren Group, with Worcester exceeding state figures.
The city of Worcester saw an 82-percent gain in home sales in April, up to 109, and is performing strong for the year at 43 percent above the previous year’s sales, according to the group’s data.
The group there were 600 single-family home sales in Worcester County in April, up 38 percent year-over-year from the 434 sales last April. The year-to-date sales also remained steady at 34.3 percent above sales last year through April. Condo sales were also up 20.5 percent in April and 28 percent for the year in Worcester County.
“Buyers are out in force while prices remain below their peak in many communities. And threats of rising interest rates are pushing everyone to close their deals soon,” Timothy M. Warren Jr., CEO of The Warren Group, said in a statement.
Middlesex County saw gains of 21.8 percent for the month in single-family home sales and 27.4 percent for the year so far.
These sales were in the context of 4,278 single-family homes sold statewide in April, compared with 3,176 in April 2015, or a 34.7 percent gain. Year-to-date, sales were up by 31.1 percent with 14,257 homes sold in the first four months of 2016 compared with 10,876 sold during the same time last year.
