The City of Worcester announced Monday it has hired Jay Fink as the next commissioner of Public Works and Parks.
For the last eight years, Fink served as assistant director of the Department of Public Works for the City of Miami Beach. Before that, he served as a commissioner of Public Works in Lynn, between 2004 and 2012. He held the same role in Quincy between 2002 and 2004.
“There is so much happening in the City of Worcester right now and in the future, including the building of new schools that will supplement the education of thousands of children, major street improvement projects that will make roads more accessible to all who use them, and of course, a new ballpark that will create memories for generations to come,” Fink said, nodding to the ongoing $132-million Polar Park project, which is expected to be completed in the spring.
The commissioner of Public Works and Parks oversees many city divisions, including engineering and architecture, water, sewer, streets, sanitation, parking garages, parking lots and on-street parking, parks, golf course, snow removal and street lights, according to a press release from the city. The department includes more than 450 full-time personnel.
