Frances Anthes, the retiring president and CEO of the Family Health Center of Worcester, has been honored by the National Association of Community Health Centers, the Worcester center announced Wednesday.
Anthes was given the Cornell Scott Excellence in Leadership Award, which honors health leaders and advocates for those who are underserved. The Family Health Center of Worcester offers a wide range of services, from family medicine and maternal child health to dentistry and HIV counseling and testing.
The award was given at an annual industry conference last month in Orlando, Fla.
Anthes joined the health center in 1991 and has been its leader since 1997. She announced in July that she will retire at the end of the year.
Under Anthes' tenure, the Family Health Center of Worcester has expanded its services, including through a partnership with UMass Medical School and UMass Memorial Healthcare. Anthes has also been involved in the Worcester area through her service on several boards, including the Worcester Infant Mortality Reduction Task Force, the Central Massachusetts Oral Health Initiative, and the United Way of Central Massachusetts.
