Worcester getting $327K for pharmacy tech training

The City of Worcester and the Central Massachusetts Workforce Investment Board are receiving about $327,000 in state funding for a program training pharmacy technicians.
The initiative received nearly $20,000 to design a training program, and will later receive about $307,000 to implement the program, the state announced on Friday.
The Worcester team was one of five statewide to receive funding from 30 that applied for funding. Programs in Boston, Holyoke, Lawrence and Lowell also received funding.
Worcester's team was chosen to be part of the state's Learn to Earn program working to bring together education, economic development and workforce policies to meet employers' demand for skilled workers. The program targets individuals receiving assistance from public-benefit programs, as well as jobs for which there is a high demand for workers.
The city and the Central Massachusetts Workforce Investment Board will develop a registered pre-apprenticeship program to connect those with significant social barriers to high-priority jobs, the state said.
