The average gasoline price in Greater Worcester was $3.44 per gallon on Monday morning, a 3-cent decrease from $3.47 a week ago.
The price of regular unleaded gasoline has decreased 13 cents per gallon since a month ago. The average gas price in Worcester on May 10 was $3.57, according to a report from the travel group AAA Northeast.
The Worcester declines follow the Massachusetts trend, which similarly shows a 4-cent decrease over the last week, averaging at $3.47 per gallon, according to the AAA Northeast press release on Monday. The state average price is down 11 cents from a month ago and 6 cents lower than on the same day last year.
Although Northeast gas prices have been on steady decline due to growing inventories and uninspired demand, oil and gas markets are preparing for the upcoming hurricane season, according to AAA.
An above-normal Atlantic hurricane season is predicted this year, which depending on landfall, could cause disruption to oil and gas ports, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
“Drivers will appreciate cheaper gas in June as supply continues to outpace demand, but market watchers should keep their eyes peeled on the Atlantic Ocean in addition to the current price at the pump,” Mark Schieldrop, senior spokesperson at AAA Northeast, said in the press release.
The Worcester average gas price is the same as the national average, at $3.44 per gallon. The national average price is 19 cents lower than a month ago and 14 cents lower than the same day last year.
